Attract more website traffic with great content

If there's any "secret" to getting more website traffic, it's... content!

What is content?

• Text - written information

• Images - such as photos of flowers, or pictures of works of art

• Video - whether professionally filmed for news sites or home made such as many of the videos you can watch on sites like YouTube

All three can attract more website traffic from search engines. And excellent content in whatever form will be treated seriously by surfers - giving you links from other sites back to your pages, and giving you the edge over your competitors.

Why is content so important for your traffic?

• Search engines want to give good results to their users.

• They want to keep those users coming back because they earn a ton of money from their advertisers.

• You need more website traffic - and the SEs can send it to you.

• And when surfers search for stuff, they expect to find it.

It's a jolly foursome!

What have you searched for lately? Maybe you've wanted to find out about

• how to get mold off a wall
• romantic vacations
• or even... how to get more website traffic!

And when you search, you expect to find some decent sites on the results pages, don't you? You're certainly not going to click around on a site for ten minutes trying to find something.

As a surfer, if you think a search engine produces irrelevant results, you'll go elsewhere. And that's lost business for that engine. The SEs are literally banking on their own visitors to deliver income from ads or services.

Google, for example, tells webmasters to "create a useful, information-rich site..." and to "provide unique and relevant content" - the latter aimed particularly at affiliates. And I guess that goes for anyone who is trying to make a living on the web. As well as anyone who wants more website traffic to any kind of site.

They may be thinking about buying something - but they want to find out about it first. They might want a product review. Or they may even want to convince themselves they really do need this product so want to find out a little bit more about the whole thing.

Check out your favorites/bookmarks - almost without exception, most of those sites are sure to be sites full of content. Why? Because they tell you... what you need to know.

• Or you're just starting your online business and have a service or product to sell but have never considered writing any content for it.

• Of course, you might know exactly what kind of content to provide, but you don't know how to go about writing or providing it.

Whatever your site is about, you'll need to provide interesting, relevant content for your visitors to enjoy - and for the search engine spiders to chew on so that you get those visitors in the first place.
